Craftster Dust of Enchantment has a tutorial on how to make the pony tail and obi for these Japanese 3D paper dolls. She also shares they are actually called “washi ningyo” (washi=Japanese handmade paper; ningyo=doll).

The artist we linked to sells the pattern/kit for the dolls – click through to her Etsy store (from the link we gave above) if you’d like to buy one. There are also books and classes available that teach how to make these charming Japanese dolls.
