Newspaper yarn
Greetje van Tiem is a Dutch designer who developed newspaper yarn.
Here is what she writes on her website very freely translated from Dutch (by Eve):
“A thread that comes from a memory. The front page of a newspaper yields no less than twenty metres of yarn, news of the day made into fabric. Every skein of yarn representing specific moments from the past, that can be made into all sorts of different upholstery.
The weekend paper from a romantic weekend away can end up as a curtain in the lounge. The last week of the World Championship soccer 2006 transforms into a rug with a glow of orange in it.
If you look in detail you can still see bits and pieces of text and dates. You cannot have a look in the paper again but the memory will stay.”

Hello! I am a new reader of your blog. I love paper crafts and origami. This might be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. I want some!!

Okay so that really got me interested, combining my love for paper craft with my love for yarn! So I did some digging, and I found a site that tells you how to make it yourself! Somewhat time intensive, maybe if I buy a spindle someday I’ll give it a try!
