Earth Hour

Saturday the 28th of March between 8.30pm and 9.30pm is Earth Hour. This year the goal is set to have 1 billion people turn off their lights for 1 hour. Such an amazing initiative which we definitely support. So for once DO NOT visit us but join this global celebration, light your candles and maybe make these lovely lightswitches; Paper-Replika is sharing this free download here.

Photo kaleidocycle

Today we have another fun project for you to try with your photos. Foldplay has a great little application on their site – upload 4 photos and then print a cut and fold model to make your own personalized kaleidocycle: “moving paper sculptures that turn in an endless cycle”. Each photo is revealed in turn as you play with the model – clever!

Animal models

Hitachi Japan have created some endangered species animal paper models. I thought I’d try their sea turtle model so I could give you a quick review.
The colours printed less vibrantly than shown on the website, although I accidentally printed it onto cheap paper using my printer’s economy settings, so that’s probably why! The model only has 2 pieces (head and body) and printed onto 1 sheet of paper! Although the key is written in Japanese, you really don’t need instructions (and see my previous tutorial on this tyoe of paper model if you need more assistance). Cut around the solid lines, fold the dotted lines, glue the tabs - it was very straightforward and I’m impressed with the result of such a simple design:

So cute!
If you like animals, don’t forget to check out the other models in the series too.
